Hagerman Canyon Farm’s Proud Employees
David Jentzsch
Owner – General Manager
I grew up on a potato farm in Southern Idaho. From a young age I have always enjoyed growing things. After graduating high school I went to BYU-Idaho and got a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business. I enjoy the daily challenges that come with growing and shipping the best tasting produce. I also take pride in providing a great place to work for our many employees. I have a wife and 3 kids who all help on the farm as well. There is no place better to raise a family than on a farm!
Shawn Scoresby
Operations Manager
I grew up farming Sweet Corn and other produce in Eastern Idaho and moved to Hagerman in 2012 after receiving a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business from BYU-Idaho. I started farming with David in 2014 and I have enjoyed the challenge of taking a very small farm and helping to grow it into a larger, more established farm. As the farm grew so did my family. My wife and I have 4 children who all love to eat Hagermelon.
Carl Chambers
Farm Manager
My name is Carl Chambers. I am a farm manager for Hagerman Canyon Farms. I am from Corvallis, Oregon and received my bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness for California Polytechnic University San Luis Obispo. I have been farming since I was 8 years old on the family farm and have been officially managing farms since 2011. I have grown over 20 different crops organically, sustainably and conventionally. I enjoy farming because it presents a new
challenge every day. Some of my hobbies include refereeing high school basketball, skiing, and woodworking.
Jesse Bolyard
Farm Manager
I love working with the Hagerman Canyon Team! I think it is an excellent opportunity and experience to work with watermelons, pumpkins, and other fresh produce. It is not common to receive such experience in Southern Idaho, where I have called home my entire life. It has really broadened my understanding of agriculture.
Lalo Sanchez
Shop Manager
agriculture. At the time, what began as just a job, ignited into a passion. Now with over 25 years of dedicated experience, I find great fulfillment in the work I do. Being part of Hagerman Canyon Farms is truly a gift and I am very thankful for the opportunity they have given me. My wife Judith and I are blessed with three wonderful children. In 2018 our journey led us to Hagerman, a vibrant community we have wholeheartedly embraced.
Candice Hill
Office Specialist
I transplanted to Idaho in 2012 from Amarillo, Texas where I began my agricultural career. I started in the wine industry where I learned all about the process from the ground up, and farming became a passion. I was honored to become part of the Hagerman Canyon Farm’s family in 2022. I flourish in continuously learning and growing with this amazing company and team.

Hagerman Farm’s History
Rod Jentzsch began farming in 1980 on a small rocky farm on the North side of Minidoka County. Six years later he took on his best employee, Joe Kearl, as his 50/50 partner. Rod would later joke that he made more money that day than he had made farming the last six years. The farm was upside down, so instead of giving away equity, he gave away half of his debt! With this agreement Jentzsch Kearl Farms (JKF) was born in the middle of the 1980’s farming crisis.
In 2006 Rod took two of his sons, Darek and David Jentzsch, and planted a half acre truck garden as a summer project for them. That summer they set up a fruit stand in front of their house. Of all the different things they grew everyone was thrilled with the watermelons that were grown. The next summer the brothers grew more melons and one day when there were more melons to sell than what could be sold at the fruit stand they loaded up a pickup full of watermelon and headed to town. A local grocery store purchased them and that was the start of the watermelon farm.
David continued growing watermelon through college and after graduation ventured out on his own and moved to the famous Hagerman Valley to grow watermelon where in the warmer climate. He started Hagerman Canyon Farms (HCF) in 2011. He continued to slowly grow more and more each year as well as branching out into other crops such as mini watermelon, cantaloupe, pumpkins, sweet corn, and winter squash. Starting off with 50 acres Hagerman Canyon Farms now grows over 1,000 acres of fresh produce and is the largest watermelon shipper in the Northwest. In 2021 David decided to bring Hagerman Canyon Farms back to the family farm. Jentzsch Kearl Farms and Hagerman Canyon Farms are now operated together by the same two brothers that started farming in their back yards all those years ago with Darek running Jentzsch Kearl Farms and David Hagerman Canyon Farms.
